Volkswagen is known and respected for building fantastic motor cars, and the 2023 VW Arteon, with its exceptional styling and engineering qualities, continues this tradition. A sedan with sweeping coupe lines, it is a car that shines in both looks and performance. Combined with its innovative technology and heightened levels of comfort, it is a car that needs to be examined in detail.

Lineup

The SE R-Line, the SEL R-Line, and the top-of-the-range SEL Premium R-Line comprise the three trim levels in the 2023 Arteon lineup. Although the SE is the entry-level model, it comes equipped with a number of features as standard that you don’t often find on base models, such as dual-powered front seats and tilt and telescopic steering wheel, to name but two. The SEL and SEL Premium trims build on this with the addition of an all-wheel-drive drivetrain with driving mode selection and a power-tilting sunroof. The Premium model also has special luxury features such as ventilated front seats with the drivers having additional power lumber and massage functions.

Styling

The exterior styling is just showstopping. Augmented with the fastback lines is an incredible front end where the elements appear to merge together. It is most noticeable where the headlight unit meets the front grille, where the lines from the lighting segments seem to vanish into the bars on the grille, lighting a path to the VW badge in the dark. The wheel options are suitably styled to continue the design theme, with the SE possessing 18-inch alloy wheels and the SEL and SEL Premium having 20-inch alloys.

Interior

When you climb into the Arteon, you immediately notice how carefully even the smallest detail is thought out, whether in terms of styling or function. The controls and instrument gauges are beautifully designed and perfectly positioned for ease of use. Much attention has also gone into maximizing available interior space. Driver and passenger comfort levels are well considered, with the legroom provided for the front seats being 41.2 inches and the rear seats at 40.2 inches. Trunk space has not been forgotten, with 27.2 cu ft of room behind the rear seats paired with a wide-opening liftgate door.

Performance

A 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbo engine is fitted in all three trim levels. The unit is impressive and generates up to 300 hp. A seven-speed automatic transmission is also part of the powertrain, and the combination produces an excellent 31 mpg on the highway while 22 mpg on the city streets.

Technology

As you would expect with VW cars, the Arteon has some of the most sophisticated technology features as standard or as available options. Included among them are a series of comprehensive driver-assist features like area view, park assist, and a head-up display. Safety is also at the forefront of the technology offered, with a comprehensive safety suite called IQ Drive included. With the features, style, and performance that we have outlined, driving the 2023 Arteon should be high on your list of priorities.
